Do-it-Yourself Indoor Pest Control
Indoor pests are a source of frustration, aggravation, and even sickness for many homeowners. Ants, cockroaches, spiders, fleas, bed bugs, and termites can wreak havoc on your home; bite you and your pets, and spread germs, bacteria, and disease. It is imperative that you rid your home of all insects and pests that think that your home would be suitable for their living quarters as well. Many insects reproduce at unbelievable rates, so when you first see them, you will need to remove them as quickly as possible, before they have a chance to multiply. There are many methods you can use to treat indoor pests that will not require the services of a professional exterminator.
There are a number of different indoor pest control methods that many homeowners find practical and effective in the treatment of indoor pests. Traps, sprays, powders, and foggers are all effective for treating various pests. The first step in performing your own pest control is in identifying the insect that you are dealing with. At first, that may seem simple. Someone may say, "Oh, I have cockroaches in my kitchen." Or, "I have to kill these ants!" However, if you are not sure exactly what type of cockroach or ant you are dealing with, you may not choose the most effective poison that will completely eradicate their nest or colony.
Natural remedies are varied and depend on the insect that you are trying to remove. You can determine what type of insect you are dealing with by researching through the Internet, books at your local library, or even through your local exterminator. More research will reveal various recommended natural remedies that have been shown to remove those insects. For example, many ants will not cross a line drawn with Vaseline, citric oil, or even coffee grounds. However, these remedies will do nothing to rid your home of cockroaches. There are also various chemical poisons that are available for purchase that are very effective for the person who is doing their own indoor pest control.
Precautions should always be taken when using chemical poisons inside. Be sure to read the labels and directions thoroughly and use all products according to their instructions. Many times, a product will recommend that everyone (including pets) leave the house during the time of spraying. Take these precautions seriously and only use sprays and foggers when the house will be empty.
